Welcome to the BISD Bond Election Website!

Thank you for visiting! In October 2009, the Breckenridge ISD Board of Trustees hired an architectural firm to perform a thorough and detailed assessment of all current BISD facilities. The firm studied our campuses in terms of Building Code, Texas Education Agency (TEA) and handicap accessibility standards as well as general architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical conditions. The firm reported that all of our classrooms are undersized and all of our campuses have numerous site and building deficiencies.

During this time, the Board also formed a citizen-led Bond Steering Committee comprised of about 20 of our Breckenridge community members to study the Facility Assessment, prioritize items and ultimately, make a recommendation to the Board for a May 2010 bond election.

On March 1, the Board called a bond election in the amount of $42,680,000 to fund the projects as recommended by the Committee, including renovations and additions to our existing campuses as well as the construction of a new elementary school.

The bond election, as proposed, will:
  • fund the additions and renovations of East Elementary School
         into a Primary School for Grades Pre-K - Kindergarten;
  • fund the construction of a new elementary school for Grades 1 - 5;
  • fund the additions and renovations to South Elementary School
         for the new Junior High School location for Grades 6 - 8; and,
  • fund the additions and renovations to the existing High
         School/Junior High School complex for a complete high school,
         Grades 9 - 12.

    If the bond is successful, the average homeowner in BISD will pay an estimated $4.69 more per month in taxes.

    This website has been created to serve as a tool for our community during this time. On it, you will find detailed information about the proposed projects, estimated costs, tax impact and voting information, as well as a place to submit your bond-related question to the District.

    Please check back frequently as more information is released. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or stop by my office.

    Sincerely,

    Jennings Teel, Superintendent
    Breckenridge ISD
